Experience pure relaxation in the Zinkgraben
your local recreation area in Sankt Gallen
your local recreation area in Sankt Gallen
The market town of Sankt Gallen is reviving a picturesque local recreation area with the Zinkgraben project. Start your exploration tour either at the newly designed market square in Sankt Gallen or in the district of Weißenbach an der Enns, near the Eisenwurzen Halle. The Zinkgraben offers you pure nature and invites you to exercise and relax in the midst of a beautiful landscape.
Discover nature on the Auszeitsteig Zinkgraben
Fascinating nature experiences await you on the trail through the ravine forest along the Große Billbach stream. Newly constructed bridges lead to a small “peninsula” in the stream, which is the ideal starting point for easy hikes. Geologically interesting conglomerate quarries and landslides also make the Zinkgraben exciting for those interested in geology. Especially in hot temperatures, the Auszeitsteig Zinkgraben is ideal for cooling off and recharging your batteries.
Knowledge along the way – themed and information boards
On your way through the Zinkgraben, numerous information boards provide information about the unique flora and fauna of the ravine forest, the role of forests in climate change and the geological features of the region. Learn more about the history of Gallenstein Castle and the market town of Sankt Gallen and Weißenbach.
Exercise fun in the Sankt Gallen exercise arena
Three running and walking routes of varying degrees of difficulty are waiting to be discovered:
- Tankstellenrunde (3.1 km) – This paved route is ideal for beginners and leads through the city.
- Zinkgrabenrunde (3.2 km) – A route for experienced runners and walkers, which leads along the Großer Billbach stream through the ravine forest.
- Milchstraßenrunde (10 km) – The perfect route for keen runners. It leads through the Zinkgraben, up to Weißenbach and further along the Milky Way back to Sankt Gallen in the Zinkgraben.
