Köhlerzentrum with special exhibition
in Hieflau
The nearly 400-year history of charring wood on the Hieflauer-Lend is documented by a life-size walk-in charcoal kiln, a partial reconstruction of the Ennstrift rake, a water wheel to drive the wood elevator and the mining history museum.
Country & People in Hieflau – A historical journey in pictures. This special exhibition with 16 photographs is intended to take you on a journey through time into the past and also a bit into the future. The pictures also show the country and people of Hieflau in the 21st century. The exhibition provides an overview of the eventful history of Hieflau – from the history of the earth to the present day. Thanks to a grant from Department 9, Culture of the State of Styria, the premises of the existing charcoal pile could be redesigned in regional cooperation.
The Hieflau charcoal burner center is open daily from May to October (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) and welcomes numerous visitors.
