Gallenstein Castle
Dating back to the 13th century, Gallenstein Castle served as a refuge and an administrative centre of Admont Abbey until the end of the 19th century. It then fell into complete decline, but has been restored and revived thanks to the great voluntary commitment of Burgverein Gallenstein since the mid-1960s.
In the meantime, the castle has become a cultural and social centrepiece of the entire region. A popular destination providing a scenic view of the Gesäuse mountains and a venue for a wide variety of events – including the annual St. Gallen Festival -, Gallenstein Castle is a magnet for visitors from all over the world.
